"Walk on the Wildside" on Saturday, May 20, 2006. The event begins at
10:00 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. It is located at the Beach Lake
Preserve Picnic Area, just south of the town of Freeport. This free
event usually attracts over 2,000 visitors, who enjoy live animal
edu-tainment, more than 25 exhibitors and vendors, guided and
self-guided tours of the refuge and neighboring Bufferlands,
educational demonstrations and displays, children's activities and
activity booklet & prizes, food, live music, and more. Winners of
a childrens' art and essay contest will be announced during the day
by local County Board of Supervisors. This is also one of the
California Native Plant Society's annual spring plant sales! The
event is held outdoors in beautiful lush surroundings bordered by
riparian trees and nearby wetlands.
